In this course, students learn about the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS™) framework and the importance of teacher-child interactions on child social emotional and academic outcomes. Students will examine the 10 dimensions of the instrument, understand potential uses of the CLASS™, and reflect on strengths and areas to grow in providing academic and social support to promote student learning. CLASS™ is a multifaceted observation system that requires training to use it appropriately. This two-day in-person training offered by certified CLASS™ trainers covers the instrument and provides opportunities to score video segments in preparation for the online reliability testing. Additionally, students must complete 3-4 hours of pre-training exercises and readings and complete the reliability testing after the training. Passing the online test is necessary to become a reliable CLASS™ observer.
